I used to have quite a few websites hosted on WordPress.com, but all my sites are currently self hosted sites. If you don’t know the difference go to this article: The Difference Between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.I use WordPress.org software for all my websites. I don’t host any of them on WordPress.com anymore. I now host most of my sites with Bluehost. The biggest reason is:
Google Analytics
In marketing te old business saying of: “Measure it and it will improve” hold true. Being able to accurately track all your website / blog metrics is crucial in marketing.
Google Analytics will help you measure:
- Website traffic (unique visitors and page views)
- Traffic sources
- Conversion and where the conversion sources are
- Views by page
- Bounce rate
- Time spent on site
- And plenty more useful statistics about your site.
In my marketing strategy these metrics are extremely important. We are all pressed for time so having access to these statistics helps us do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.
There are more reasons for self hosting a WordPress blog / website like the plugins and themes available for a self hosted site.
